Essay day

Today we were assigned a prompt to write an essay for a major grade. The prompt dealt with the novel “The Color Purple”. Writing this essay was a little difficult because I have trouble putting my thoughts onto paper. I usually think about what i am going to write but I can almost never put it on paper. Also I had trouble on creating different ways to start my body paragraphs without repeating the same thing. I feel like I did alright on the essay I was confident coming into the assignment. Overall I learned from some mistakes that I usually make and hope to continue learning in AP lit.

No teacher

Today my instructor was absent. We didn’t do anything but watch a couple videos of “The Color Purple”.

Reading the color purple

Today we continued reading the novel “The Color Purple”. We read up to letter 33. The letters we read today was very interesting even though they were explicit. I don’t mind the explicit language because it brings out the reality of what’s really happening in the novel or letters. It also gives the reader more reasons to keep reading or either stop reading it. I enjoyed the letters we read hope to read more tomorrow.

Reading the color purple

Today we corrected thesis statements and claims made by some of my peers in the classroom. We also continued reading the novel “The Color Purple”. Reading the thesis statements and claims made by some of my classmates ensured that we need more work on creating an essay as a whole. One of the mistakes were simple mistakes that could have been fixed if they were paying more attention. Overall the class needs to work on those aspects. However I did enjoy reading the novel. It is very interesting and well written. I can’t wait to read more tomorrow.

Reading the color purple

Today we continued reading the color purple but at the beginning of class we finished answering our critical questions on letters 1-5. The novel is very emotional and explicit. I have to problem with the diction in the novel because it either brings the reader in or out and it brought me in. Reading and analyzing this novel is interesting because of how the author portrayed gender roles and women’s independence. Also how things were back then such as young girls getting married to full grown men. Answering the questions about the novel was not hard because I got an understanding of what I’ve read. I had a good time in class today hope to have even more fun tomorrow.

Color purple

On yesterday we started reading The Color Purple. The novel opened up with Celia telling the life changing event she went through. My reaction to it was unexplainable but I can’t wait too get more deeper in the novel .

Answering questions about poems

Today we did work out of the book as an individual. We answered literally analysis questions on poems by Ben Jonson. Some of the literary analysis questions were hard but I figured out how to get them done. All in all it was a great day in AP lit.

Analyzing poems

Today we were put into groups so that we could analytic poem “The Moon and Yew Tree” by Sylvia Plath. This poem was very difficult, in fact all of her poems are difficult in my opinion. Each group had to analyze the entire poem but only present the analysis of one stanza. This process was harder than I expected because of the difficulty of the poem and also working with other people. I usually do well when I’m working alone because it’s just my opinions and not anyone else’s. Overall I had fun and wish to have more fun tomorrow in class.

Reading Sylvia Plath

Today we read and analyzed “You’re” by Sylvia Plath. The poem was difficult to understand when I read it without my teacher helping me out. The first thing that we did with the poem was underline and circle all of the similes and metaphors so that we could explain the function of each one. Explaining the function of figurative Language is not the challenge. The challenge is understanding what the poem is talking about. Overall it was a great day in AP Lit.

Fences Essay

Today we was assigned an essay on the play “Fences”. The essay question came from AP collegboard. We read the question as a class before we read it individually. While doing this essay I ran into a little trouble because it’s hard for me to plan out an entire essay so I had to come off my head with allot of information that I wrote. Overall I learned from that situation and will continue to get better.
